Leadership Isn't Measured by What You Achieve...

It is measured by what endures.

Throughout my career, I have coached some of the world's most accomplished CEOs, government leaders, entrepreneurs, and executives. One truth has become unmistakably clear:

The higher leaders rise, the fewer people challenge them, the fewer people truly know them, and the lonelier leadership becomes.

The John Mattone Legacy Circle™ was created to change that. It is a transformational one-year experience for a select group of exceptional leaders committed to building extraordinary organizations, and even more extraordinary lives.

Not another coaching program. Not another network. Not another mastermind.

Why the Legacy Circle Exists

Most leadership programs focus on what leaders do.

The Legacy Circle focuses on who leaders become.

Every experience is designed to strengthen both dimensions of Intelligent Leadership®:

The Wheel of Intelligent Leadership: an inner core of self concept, character, values, beliefs, emotions, and thoughts drives nine outer core competencies, including critical thinking, decision making, strategic thinking, emotional leadership, communication skills, talent leadership, team leadership, change leadership, and drive for results.

The wheel maps it: a strong inner core at the center, driving the nine outer core competencies the world sees.

Who you are

The inner core: character, values, emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and purpose.

What you do

The outer core: nine leadership competencies, from critical thinking and decision making to team leadership and drive for results.

What endures

A stronger inner core drives a stronger outer core. Sustainable success begins on the inside, and that is what lasts.

Four Executive Weekends. One Extraordinary Year.

Four gatherings across one year, each with its own theme, each building on the last. You arrive as an accomplished leader. You leave with a clear plan for the chapter that follows.

Every summit follows the same rhythm. Each gathering begins Thursday evening with an exclusive private Welcome Reception. Friday is a full day of immersive leadership sessions. Saturday continues with a half day of deep learning followed by a curated shared experience in the afternoon: championship golf, wine tasting, fly fishing, hiking, or other memorable local experiences designed to build meaningful relationships. Sunday morning concludes with reflection, commitments, and a clear action plan before you head home.

Winter Summit

Leading Through Uncertainty

John Mattone teaching an intimate group of senior leaders

The year opens where trust begins. Before the first session, John and Gayle Mattone welcome the Circle into their home for a private reception, a deliberate choice that sets the tone for everything that follows: candor, warmth, and real relationships. From there, the work turns to the pressure every senior leader carries. You learn to lead from a steady inner core when the ground keeps moving, and you leave with peers who already know what you are carrying.

  • Open the year at a private reception in the Mattone home.
  • Work through an Executive Leadership Masterclass and live CEO Hot Seats.
  • Debrief your Intelligent Leadership® Assessment one to one.
  • Join confidential peer advisory sessions and an executive dinner.

Growth Summit

Building Extraordinary Organizations

John Mattone in conversation with a room of senior executives

The spring summit turns outward, from the leader to the organization the leader builds. You work through culture, executive team development, and the decisions that shape a company's next stage of growth. Coaching labs put the ideas into practice, and sessions on AI and leadership press on where the work is heading. Between the sessions there is room to breathe, with optional golf, spa, and curated local experiences that keep the Circle connected outside the room.

  • Reshape culture and develop your executive team.
  • Sharpen decision-making and innovation under real stakes.
  • Apply new thinking on AI and leadership in coaching labs.
  • Reconnect over optional golf, spa, and curated local experiences.

Autumn in Vermont, on the grounds of the Lincoln family estate at Hildene and The Equinox resort, is the quietest and most personal stop of the year. This is an immersive retreat built for reflection, not performance. There is time to step back from the calendar and sit with the questions that rarely get asked at the top: who you are becoming, and what you want to leave behind. It is where many members say the year truly changes them.

  • Work through the Legacy Leadership Workshop.
  • Reflect in personal coaching sessions and fireside conversations.
  • Map your leadership plan over fine dining with the Circle.
  • Unwind with optional golf, hiking, fly fishing, and spa.

Frequently Asked Questions

The annual investment covers all four summits and everything inside them: educational programming, Intelligent Leadership® assessments, executive workshops and coaching labs, confidential peer advisory sessions, private receptions and dinners, your leadership materials and workbook, ground transportation for scheduled activities, and graduation recognition. It also includes your Lifetime Legacy Circle Alumni designation. Travel and hotel accommodations are arranged and paid separately, with preferred rates negotiated for each event.

Those groups are built mostly around peer exchange, and they do that well. The Legacy Circle is built around a method. Every summit strengthens both your inner core and your outer core, because character drives competence, and the year is designed to change who you are as a leader, not just what you know. John Mattone leads all four summits himself, joined by his Master Elite Coaches, and the Circle is capped to a small cohort so the room stays personal. It is peer wisdom and a proven coaching process, together.

The Circle is for accomplished leaders who refuse to stop growing: CEOs, founders, presidents, private equity leaders, family business leaders, senior executives, and entrepreneurs scaling high-growth companies. You submit a short application, and if there is a fit, the JMG team reaches out for a confidential conversation about your goals. Every application is reviewed personally by John and the leadership team. You will hear back with an invitation or an honest read on fit and timing.

Four executive weekends across one year: the Winter Summit in February, the Growth Summit in May, the Legacy Retreat in October, and the Vision Summit in December. Each begins Thursday evening with a private Welcome Reception, followed by a full day of sessions Friday, a half day of deep learning Saturday with a curated shared experience in the afternoon, and a Sunday morning close of reflection, commitments, and a clear action plan. That is three nights away, four times a year, with time built in for the deep work, the peer conversations, and the reflection that a normal calendar never allows. Members who show up fully get the most from the year.

Three of the four are held at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes (February, May, and December). The fall Legacy Retreat is held in Manchester, Vermont, at Hildene, the Lincoln Family Estate, and The Equinox Golf Resort and Spa. Exact dates are confirmed with members well in advance so you can plan your year around them.

Yes. John Mattone leads all four summits himself. He is joined throughout the year by select Master Elite Coaches from John Mattone Global, who lead coaching labs, guide confidential peer advisory sessions, and run leadership workshops. Because the Circle is capped to a small cohort, you get real access to John and the faculty across the entire year, not a stage appearance and a handshake.

It is a private, AI-powered leadership advisor that every graduate can access after the year ends. It keeps John's leadership philosophy, coaching frameworks, strategic guidance, and reflection exercises within reach year-round, so the work continues between and beyond the summits. Graduates may continue with an annual subscription. It is designed to extend the relationship, not replace the human coaching at the heart of the Circle.

Yes. Many members participate with their organization's support, and the investment is frequently sponsored by the company as a leadership development commitment. Membership is held in your name, since the work is personal and the peer relationships are yours. If it helps, the JMG team can provide the documentation your finance or HR team needs during the application conversation.

Apply for the Legacy Circle™
